It is one of the biggest events at the Sensō-ji temple(浅草寺)in Asakusa in Tokyo. It is held on July 9 and 10 every year.
Visiting this festival, you can hear the refreshing sounds of wind chimes and see colourful Chinese lanterns plants.
On the 10th, visiting Kannon(観音); the Goddess of Mercy, people can have good fortune.
A common belief is that a single trip to the temple during the festival brings the same number of blessing as visiting the shrine for 46,000 days which is about 126 years.
Since the Edo period, this day has been a popular day of worship.
The history of the event dates to ancient times, when the plants were sold as medicinal herbs, good for relieving a cough and fever.
Japanese children used to have a favorite pastime, producing a distinctive sound like a small balloon by blowing on the seed pods.
