The yellow flowers are blooming in my teacher's garden in Kawasaki City in Kanagawa Prefecture. The red flowers are in my garden, close to Sumida River in Tokyo. They are blooming brighter every day, and they make me feel cheerful and happy.

Girls Festival (Hina-Matsuri ひな祭り) is held on the 3rd, March. Japanese people celebrate this day for girls. Each family has a party for little girls to grow healthy by decorating dolls and eating Chirashi-zushi (ちらし寿司). Because it is said that the dolls take away evil spirits,calamity and disease.
There are many kinds of dolls. This photo represents one form of them. These dolls (photo) are made of china. It is a unique style. It is called Shigaraki-yaki(信楽焼) in Koka City in Shiga prefecture (滋賀県甲賀市). My friend,Toshimichi Isino (石野敏道) makes these ones for the festival. Before you drink green tea, you should take a Japanese sweet cake. Because the green tea is a little bit bitter, you can eat the sweets first. An iron kettle is singing and boiling hot water. In here there is no sound except for the kettle. This place is warm and peaceful. It makes you relax. This is a tatami room. The preparation for first tea ceremony of New Year.There is an iron kettle and a hanging scroll (Kekegiku 掛軸). In here without a lamp, it takes only natural light, then the atmosphere is very calm and peaceful.
