Bunka-no-hi is a holiday, On the 3rd of November.
It is about loving freedom, peace and appreciating Japanese culture. It is the day of the proclamation of the Japanese Constitution. This holiday came from the birthday of the Meiji Emperor who was worried about losing Japan's own culture and morality by the wave of western and American culture during the Meiji period. There are many events and festivals on this day. Japanese people visit and enjoy museums and theatrical performances. Jusan-ya(十三夜) Japanese people appreciate two kinds of full moons in October, Jusan-ya (十三夜) and Jugo-ya(十五夜). During the Jusan-ya, beans and chestnuts are offered to the moon, and during the Jugo-ya, potatoes, dumplings, vegetables and flowers are offered to both moons. It is said that they bring good luck to Japanese people, when they see both moons. I attended a great party for Jusan-ya. A cook, Akiko Ishikawa(石川昭子) invited me to a delicious dinner. We enjoyed Japanese sake and fine dishes. Mt. Shasta I visited Mt.Shasta last month. It was covered in snow. From the point of view from Oregon state we can see Mt.Shasta has two peaks, Mt. Shasta and Mt. Shastina. It is 4322 meters high. From another angle it looks a lot like Mt.Fuji, which is 3776 meters high. The grassland in front of Mt. Shasta is wide and flat and there are many horses and cows. It gives me a comfortable feeling to be here. Mt. Fuji
Autumn comes, but now the typhoon is coming. Everyday it is hot and humid just like summer.
Enjoy Tokyo Disney Sea.
Now Tokyo Disney Sea has the "happiness year" event, because it is the 30th anniversary. Now we can enjoy many special events all throughout the year. You can see happy performances by Mickey Mouse and his friends on a Disney ship, fireworks, special food, many happiness decorations and so on. Otherwise if you like, you can appreciate a classical concert and "D23 Expo". Let's enjoy this fun amusement park! When we can see a heron, the white figure is really beautiful and conspicuous and he makes the scenery brighter.
An artist, Suzuki Harunobu(鈴木春信)usued to draw a woman who put on a white bridal kimono with an umbrella. A Kabuki dance, Sagi-musume(鷺娘)was based on his painting. A white heron, she longings of love for a man. But this love is forbidden. Then she has to suffer from the judgement of hell. She is dying. The end of the story is a similar scenario in the ballet "Swan Lake". Japanese people used to love them, so they made this story. If you see Mt.Fuji when it is colored red, it brings you luck and fortune. From the end of summer to the beginning of the autumn, Mt. Fuji turns red during the early mornings for less than one hour. It is really special phenomenon, because it is caused by the combination of cloud, mist and sunshine after recent snow melt. A famous woodblock painter, Katsushika Hokusai(葛飾北斎) in the Edo period, painted a red colored Mt. Fuji, "Aka-Fuji (赤富士)". It is very popular among Japanese people.
Yukata (浴衣)
A Yukata is a light piece of clothing made of cotton. It is comfortable to wear and cool in hot weather, so it is often worn in summer or at home and at hotels. Many Japanese people used to wear a Yukata, and it was often worn as night wear. These days, many Japanese people wear pyjamas in bed. Recently, Japanese young people enjoy wearing Yukata during the summer, when going to firework festivals. |
